Admissions

How you apply for a place at Longdean School varies depending on whether your child is making the transition from primary, moving from their school in-year or applying for a place in our sixth form. Longdean’s school admissions number (PAN) is 802. For details of how to apply and other admissions arrangements, see below.

Joining Longdean
If your child is in Year 6 of primary school and you would like to apply for a place for them at Longdean School for Year 7, please follow the Hertfordshire County Council applications process. Allocations will be made by Herts Admissions on 1 March 2024. If your child is allocated a place and will be joining us from September, visit our Joining Year 7 pages on the website to find out more.

Appealing for a place in Year 7
If your child is not offered a place in Year 7 at Longdean from September 2024, you have a right to appeal. To appeal for a place, you will need to set up an appeals account on the online portal. You will require your Application Reference Number and Child ID to create an account.

Appeals for admission in September 2024 will be heard according to the following timetable:

Allocation day Appeals lodged by Appeals to be heard between
1 March 2024 4pm on 28 March 2024 2 May - 17 June 2024 (excluding 27 - 31 May)

  • Appeals lodged after these dates will be heard within 40 school days of the appeal deadline or 30 school days of being lodged, which ever is the later date.
  • Appellants will be sent notification of their appeal hearing at least 10 clear working days in advance of the hearing.
  • Appellants will be sent a copy of the school's case 7 working days in advance of the hearing.

Additional supporting information:

  • If an appellant wishes to provide any supporting evidence after lodging an appeal, they will need to share it with the Appeals Team at least 7 working days before the hearing, (not counting the day of postage or the hearing date).
  • Please remember that any confidential medical/social evidence submitted to the Admission Authority (AA) in support of an application will not be provided to an appeal panel.  If parents wish to rely on this in support of an appeal, they will need to submit this documentation to the Appeals Team.
  • If the appellant has a short document (like a doctor’s letter which was not previously available), this will be accepted up to 4 working days before the hearing.  Any additional evidence received after this deadline will not be circulated and the panel may not accept any additional information taken to the hearing.

In-year admissions
If your child is currently in any other year at another school and you would like to apply for a place at Longdean, you will need to complete the Herts Admissions In Year Application Form. If there are no vacancies, your child will be placed on a waiting list according to the published criteria in the school's Admissions Policy.

If you have been unsuccessful, Herts Admissions will contact you with registration details (including an application reference number and child ID) to enable you to login and appeal online

Appeals resulting from in year admission applications will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.
