Our school facilities

In 2012, Longdean School had an overhaul as part of the Government's Priority School Building Programme. The old school was demolished to make way for sports fields and parking, and a new, modern building was built with two wings linked to a central hub which forms the entrance and heart of the current school.

This bright, spacious and contemporary school building opened at the end of 2016, with outstanding learning and teaching spaces and sports facilities, and access for students with disabilities (see our Inclusion policy for more details). The facilities include:

• a gym
• a dance studio
• an activity studio
• drama studios
• a large theatre/main hall
• a spacious café/canteen serving healthy foods and snacks
• a music recording studio
• a library
• conference rooms
• well-equipped spacious science labs
• fully kitted-out food tech rooms
• state-of-the-art IT and design and technology suites
• a designated sixth-form area over two floors, offering comfortable, quiet spaces for study as well as communal areas for exercising and socialising
• a sports centre, which includes a health and fitness suite, indoor courts, grass playing fields, artificial pitches and outdoor tennis courts
• a wildlife pond area in front of the main building, which is used to develop outdoor teaching and learning.

Hiring our facilities
Some of our facilities are available for public hire. Our lettings are open seven days a week, with closures only during bank holidays, and extended opening hours during school holidays. There is ample onsite parking and our friendly staff are always available to help.
